Sri Rama, the seventh of the ten Avatars (incarnations) of Maha Vishnu, is known as the Purushotthama or the ideal man. Wielding a bow and arrow, the handsome prince of Ayodhya is the very symbol of Dharma (righteousness). Rama, the son of Kausalya and Dasaratha, is the oldest among four brothers, the others being Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrughna.

Never swerving from his Dharma, come what may, he willingly gave up his title of Yuvaraj (throne prince) and left for the forest at the behest of his stepmother, Kaikeyi. He, along with Sita and Lakshmana, spent many happy days during the Vanvaas (stay in the forest).

The main mission of the Rama Avatar was the slaying of the ten-headed demon king, Ravana, residing at Lanka. With the help of the Vanara Sena (army of monkeys), he successfully waged war and slew Ravana, to come back to a hero's welcome and crowning as the Emperor of Ayodhya.

Here is a portrait of Rama in all his splendor, his whole countenance radiating majesty and valor.
