Manjushri is identified as the oldest, most significant and fully enlightened Bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism literature. He is worshipped as a "Meditational Deity" and is depicted as a male Bodhisattva wielding a flaming sword in his right hand, representing the realization of transcendent wisdom which cuts down ignorance and duality. He is a symbol of wisdom and denotes a being having the intrinsic nature of insight.
He is regarded as "the wonderful virtue" and is one of the Four Great Bodhisattvas in Chinese Buddhism. The other three are Ká¹£itigarbha, Avalokiteshvara, and Samantabhadra.
In Tibetan Buddhism, Manjushri is sometimes depicted in a trinity with Avalokiteshvara and Vajrapaṇi.
