Goddess Kali, an aspect of the all-powerful Shakti or Parvati, who is Lord Shiva's consort, is known for her extreme ferocity and power. She radiates arrogance and strength as she moves around wearing a garland of human heads around her neck. Legend has it that she is so much drunk in her own power that she does not even realize she has stepped on her own husband, Shiva, causing him to pass out under her feet. Realizing her huge mistake, she calms down and steps off him.
Shown in this beautiful folk art painting is a picture of Kali. This painstakingly worked upon Madhubani painting captures the very essence of Shakti, her whole stance reflecting her sheer strength, arrogance and divinity too. She wears a huge crown on her head and holds powerful weapons in her hands.
This picture shows her in her element, proud, confident and focused on her mission of wiping out evil from the face of the earth.
