|
| Shola pith is a milky-white sponge-wood which is carved into delicate and beautiful objects of art of India. Shola is a wild plant found in marshy waterlogged areas of Bengal and Assam. The shola pith is the cortex or core of the plant and is an inch and a half in diameter. The outer harder brown skin is removed by expert hands to reveal the inner soft milky-white and spongy material. Artists from Bengal, Assam, Orissa and Tamilnadu use it for making artefacts used for decoration and ornate head-wears of bridal couples. The finest examples of craftsmanship are however seen on images of gods and goddesses on festivals, especially the massive decorative backdrops made for "Durga- Puja" celebrations. |

| Hanuman is the very epitome of all the qualities necessary for a spiritual life - physical and mental strength, power, courage, humility, shraddha (dedication to purpose), bhakti (devotion) and abject surrender to his Lord, Rama... In order to counter karma brought forth by our own selfish acts, we must learn to be humble, just like Hanuman... Hanuman is considered to be an aspect of Lord Shiva. He is also said to be the son and an aspect of Vayu... It is said that Hanuman is one of the three people to have heard the Bhagavad Gita emanating from the mouth of Lord Sri Krishna... Hanuman still enjoys an exalted place in India's religious, traditional and cultural milieu... Hanuman is...depicted in Indian classical and folk arts...You can find sculptures of Hanuman at various temples... |
