Kathakali Masks : All Kathakali Masks are hand crafted from papier mache by some of the best artists. Each piece is a unique as this Mask is hand carved. Kathakali dance from Kerala, which, though is not a mask dance, does involve distinctive dramatic facial coloring meant for the transformation of human dancer-actors into suras (gods) and asuras (demons) and other mythological characters. The heavy facial coloring almost makes the performers look as if they are wearing masks. Masks are worn to accompany oral tradition, and the carvers can creatively express a village story or concept through the art form. The masks are a heritage of this planet and works beyond all stipulated geo-political boundaries of the world.Mask are a covering used to disguise or protect the face. Throughout history people in almost every society have used masks. The Mask forms a silent language which is universally understood and which defines the essence of human expressions and emotions at various levels - spiritual, religious and material.
