Balaji, an aspect of Mahavishnu, is the Lord of Tiruppati and the divine consort of Devi Padmavati. The stone sculpture featured here ably depicts the Lord Balaji, also referred to as Venkatachalapati (the Lord of Venkata Giri). Balaji wears a huge ‘thirunaamam’, a powder made from coarse white soil and starts from the center of the brows, extending to the forehead. The Lord holds his Sankha and Chakra (conch and discus) in his left and right hand respectively. The other two hands hold a mace and a lotus. Lord Balaji is adorned from head to foot with diamond and semi-precious jewelry. His heavy makara ear-rings sway to his every movement, catching the light and glistening impressively. Lord Balaji’s mandap is decorated with gold pillars and colorful flowers. He stands majestically on a raised pedestal and showers his grace on one and all.
