The camel, the ship of the desert is the most used mode of transportation in Rajasthan’s Thar Desert. The camel is the ideal animal to survive the desert, since it can store food and water inside itself for days on end. It has veritably been created by God to live through the harsh, extreme climates of the desert.

The poster featured here shows a scene of some Rajasthani nomads, or Banjaras, as they are called, traveling around the desert areas. They seem to be relieved at reaching a green oasis. They can now afford to take rest and settle down under the shade of some tree. They would also be able to get some drinking water after days of traveling beneath the hot, scorching desert sun. Wearing light-colored cotton clothing and colorful turbans wound round their heads, they travel long distances each day. One can see two men seated on each of the two camels. They keep their daily supplies of food and clothing bundled on the camels’ backs and hope for a good, uneventful journey ahead.
