Kathakali, known to be one of the most complicated dance forms of the world, is one of the major Indian classical dances. Kathakali is a dance form that originated in Kerala and till date, continues to be the very pillar of tradition and culture in God's Own Country! This dance form is very closely linked to Ramanattom and Krishnanattom, two other very famous forms of Kerala.

The mastery of this form of art takes many years of disciplined practice and endurance. Kathakali is known for its unique dressing style, costumes and makeup. A Kathakali artist is known to spend 5-6 hours in the makeup room, readying for his performance.

The face painting is done through five stages, namely, Pacha, Kathi, Kari, Thaadi, and Minukku, the colors varying according to the character of the part they are essaying on stage. Kathakali concerts are based on the major Hindu epics and mythological stories.
