This Dhokra (lost wax casting) item depicts a tribal mother holding her child and with a bowl in her hand. This antiquated item is made of cast metal using the lost-wax (or cire perdue) process called Dhokra. Dhokra is an alloy of Brass, Copper and Zinc and is used by tribals to make different kind of decoration items. These artifacts are made with great skill and meticulousness by the lost wax process, which gives them a fascinating antique look. Tribal families produce indigenous designs with typical mesh like features giving each and every article a distinctive beauty suitable for interior decoration. This item is a wonderful imagination of a tribal artist from Madhya Pradesh, India.
