Jesus Christ, also referred to as the Jesus of Nazareth, is the Son of God, born in the 1st Century, in Bethlehem. Regarded in Christianity as the Messiah, Jesus is the most important figure around which Christianity as a religion evolved. The term, 'Christ', is derived from the Greek root, Christos, which means, 'the Anointed One'. The whole life story of Jesus revolves around the concept of unconditional love, forgiveness and sacrifice. The faith believes that Jesus suffered all that he did, in order to wipe out the sins of his followers. This holy spiritual leader and healer was given much torment by the Roman Governor Pontius Pilate, who also ordered that he be crucified in Jerusalem, as he was accused of committing sedition against the Roman Empire. Jesus willingly ascended his cross, but also resurrected on the third day after the crucifixion, thereby proclaiming his divinity to one and all.
