Katyayani, is the sixth form of Navadurga. Once upon a time, the great sage Kata, who had a son called Katya, wished to have Goddess Durga as his daughter and underwent long austerities and penance in order to receive her grace. Goddess Durga fulfilled his wish and was born to Kata as his daughter. Hence the sixth form of Durga is called Katyayani and is worshipped on the sixth day of 'Navaratri'.
