Kumbha Shyam Temple - This Temple is a Hindu temple situated inside Chittorgarh Fort and is dedicated to Varaha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Kumbha Shyam Temple was built by Rana Kumbha in 1448 AD. This temple is the place where Meera used to worship Lord Krishna, and Bhakti movement originated at this place.
The temple built in Indo Aryan style presents a compact architecture. It has a unique pyramid like roof with a high tower. The temple is placed on an elevated plinth. Brown coloured Baluha stone a variety of sandstone is used in its construction. The doors of the Sanctum, panels, ceiling of dome and pillars are finely sculpted with images of Deities and sacred emblems. Besides its intricately artwork in outer section the principal niches in the walls are endowed with the Idols of Lord Vishnu in various forms. The image of Garuda stands under the canopy facing the temple.
The sanctum sanctorum of the temple comprises of the paintings of Lord Krishna. Paintings of Meerabai offering prayers to the Lord are also placed in the inner sanctum. The small chhatri found in the temple's forecourt is dedicated to the mentor of Meerabai, Swami Ravidas. He hailed from Varanasi and belonged to the Harijan caste.
It's visit is worth just not because of its architectural value and divine idols of Lord Vishnu's incarnations but the rich life of Mewar which is artistically inscribed on the panels of the temple.
