Devi Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, both material and spiritual. The word 'Lakshmi' is derived from the Sanskrit word 'lakshya', meaning 'goal'. Devi Lakshmi, therefore, stands for the goal of life, which includes worldly prosperity as well as spiritual prosperity.
