The statue on display here is a wonderful, tasteful work in black metal, showing a watchman at work. The watchman spends the entire night roaming around the premises, keeping a lookout for suspicious elements or animals trying to gain access into the place he guards. The watchman holds aloft his huge kerosene lamp, swinging it a little, thereby trying to ward off encroachers on the land he protects. In his other hand is a stick with which he beats a drum tied to his side. This he does in order to keep prowling nocturnal animals at bay. Fully dressed and shod in tall work boots, he walks the entire area throughout the night, fighting off his own tiredness and sleep. The conscientious and industrious worker keeps on his feet all night and sees to it that his employer is put to no harm due to any negligence on his part.
