Reshma and Shera were legendary Rajasthani lovers, who get caught between a violent feud raging between their families. Both Reshma’s and Shera’s family refuse to accept each other’s families, so the two lovers are separated.

To make things worse, Shera’s brother, shoots down Reshma’s father and her newly wed brother, Gopal, on orders from his father, Sagat Singh. Shera murders his own father, thinking that he was the one who killed the members of Reshma’s family.

The love story ends tragically when Reshma ends up marrying Shera’s younger brother, the very one who killed her father and brother. This heart-rending, poignant story has touched the hearts of many a reader, so much so, that even a major Hindi film had been made on the subject way back in the early ‘70’s.
