The Goddess Kali is a fierce avatar (aspect) of the serene and ever-smiling Parvati, Lord Shiva's Consort. Devi Kali, in Hindu mythology, is the terrible annihilator of evil forces. In Tantra Yoga, she is propitiated to reach the Brahman (the Ultimate One). Bengalis worship Kali as the Divine Mother, who bestows strength and wisdom on them.
Kali incarnated to slay the fearful demon, Raktabija. She is depicted with her hair let out, holding the bloody head of the slain demon.
There is also a story where Kali accidentally steps on Shiva while dancing on the battlefield. She realizes her mistake and immediately sticks out Her tongue in remorse, for having stepped on Her Husband!
This product is a remarkable terracotta statue of Kali, bringing out the Goddess' fierceness. This typically Bengali statue is cleverly adorned with an elaborate crown and ornaments made of jute, so as to make the face stand out even further.
