Spinning cottonwool enjoys an exalted position in India’s cultural heritage. The Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, popularized this concept by constantly working on his Charkha or spinning wheel, creating his own, indigenous, fabric.

Depicted in this bright wood sculpture is a figurine of an industrious cottonwool spinner. He sits at his charkha and spins busily away. He places the spinning wheel with its stand at a comfortable angle and adjusts the other end securely too.

A golden basket filled with cotton, nestles in a little corner, just next to him. The spinner spins the wheel by manually rotating it at a high speed, creating fine yarn from it. A sizeable measure of the rural sector creates its own fabric in this way and this sculpture illustrates this concept beautifully.

This lovely figurine stands out in its simplicity and elegance and is guaranteed to have your guests gushing over it!
