Wood inlay work is famous all over India. This is an ancient art, which has been handed down to generations of artisans. The inlay work is done with ivory or deer’s horns. A variety of Plastic is also occasionally used for inlay work today.

Featured here is a wood inlay sculpture of the Indian Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess of Wealth and Abundance. Lakshmi is shown in her conventional pose, seated on a large, full-bloomed lotus and holding lotuses in two hands. Lakshmi’s right hand symbolizes protection to those who surrender to Her. There is also a continuous flow of wealth pouring from this hand.
